Gum Grafting in Missoula, MT

Gum grafting is a common dental procedure used to restore receding gums and protect your teeth. During treatment, healthy gum tissue—often taken from another area of your mouth or a donor source—is carefully placed over areas where gums have pulled back. This helps cover exposed tooth roots, reduce sensitivity, and prevent further gum loss. Gum grafting can also improve the appearance of your smile and support long-term oral health by protecting teeth from decay, bone loss, and potential tooth loss, helping you maintain a healthier, more comfortable smile.

Dr. Wilcox has completed gum grafting training at the Center for Advanced Dental Education by Dr. Edward P Allen and associates. With gum grafting, we can help you achieve a healthier mouth and a more confident smile. Trust us to provide gentle, precise care tailored to your dental health needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does gum grafting cost?

Gum grafting costs at Montana Dental Arts start at $1,200 and vary depending on the number of teeth that need treatment. The price can increase based on the extent of grafting required; multiple sites may need more grafting material and longer surgery time. This tailored approach ensures that each patient receives the care they need for optimal dental health and aesthetic outcomes.

  • Does gum grafting require a second surgical site?

No, in the past, this treatment required removing tissue from the roof of the mouth. We use a material obtained from a certified tissue bank called Alloderm. This material has been prepared and tested for safe transplant and has a 25-year track record of success. Over the course of 12 months, your body will completely resorb and replace the material with your own cells. This material is also widely used for other surgical applications.

  • Are there any complications with gum grafting?

Gum grafting is a common, predictable procedure, and most patients heal smoothly. As with any treatment, possible complications can include temporary soreness, swelling, bleeding, or sensitivity—especially to cold. In some cases, the graft may not fully attach or may shrink slightly as it heals, which could affect the final coverage. Infection is uncommon but possible, and careful home care can help reduce the risk. Following post-op instructions and attending follow-up visits are the best ways to support comfortable healing and excellent results.
